When’s the last time you Googled your brand and your name?

Do it.

What do you see? Hopefully, a similar footprint that guides the buyer through storytelling about you and your brand. Why? Prospects (employees, clients, customers, etc.) do homework, and they want to see a consistent and connected story.

Think about the last time you Googled a restaurant you were thinking of dining at. Did you look at their Yelp reviews? Did you consider the score on their OpenTable prior to booking? Did you see their Google rating?

Perhaps you didn’t dive too deep into the decision making process, but at the very least, you saw it.

What about the last time you bought a car? A house? Did you do homework?

The double-edged sword of the Internet is that the availability of information is deep and rich and available — which means people do their homework. So, go back through your own footprint and see if you can find any gaps.

Last time you posted on social? How many interactions?

Last time you were in Google News? People set up Google Alerts.

Last time you released positive news?

Last time you updated your website?

Last time you responded to reviews?

So many things to think about. Don’t worry, you don’t have to go to the moon to get it all right — start by simply knowing what the footprint says and looks like.
