After two years of tinkering with discounts, McDonald's is again shifting its approach to value, this time putting simplicity at the forefront.

According to a recent AP News report, the brand is rolling out a revamped “McValue” menu starting April 21, built around a straightforward promise: 10 items priced under $3, no strings attached. There is no stacking discount or add-on strategy here. Rather, guests can rely on consistent access to affordable favorites like a Sausage McMuffin or small fries, whether they order a variety of items or just one.

At the same time, McDonald’s is layering in a $4 breakfast bundle and continuing its broader push with $5 and $6 meal deals.

“Value matters more than ever to our customers, and we take that responsibility seriously,” Alyssa Buetikofer, chief marketing and customer experience officer for McDonald’s USA, told The Associated Press.

More than anything, the shift reflects how customers are making decisions right now. Fast-food prices have climbed over the past few years, and that has forced brands to work harder to prove they still offer a good deal. Value is not something guests notice only when it is promoted well. At this point, many expect it to be built into the experience.

The simpler setup could be just as valuable for franchisees as it is for customers. When the menu is easier to understand, it can help reduce friction at the counter and in the drive-thru and make promotions easier for staff to explain.

This move fits with the direction McDonald’s has been heading for a while. The brand has spent the past year adjusting its value message while dealing with pressure on margins and softer traffic. The difference here is that the offer feels more direct and easier for customers to understand.

The bigger takeaway: value isn’t a seasonal lever anymore. Right now, quick-service brands are all fighting for the same guest: one who still wants convenience but is also paying very close attention to what it costs.
