McDonald’s Sells 30% More Quarter Pounders Since Switching to Fresh Beef

The chain also gained market share in its category for the first time in five years.

The switch from frozen to fresh beef has led McDonald's to see a 30% increase in sales of quarter pounders over the last year, according to CNN Business. Moreover, McDonald’s burgers also gained market share within the “informal eating out” category for the first time in five years.

The switch hasn’t been smooth sailing from the start, notes CNN. McDonald’s franchisees foot the bill for some of the changes, such as refrigeration and storage updates. The self-funded National Owners Association also formed last year to address concerns of owners, particularly when it came to the company’s remodeling plans.

Ultimately, “The franchisees became believers very quickly” in regard to the fresh beef change, according to Marion Gross, McDonald’s chief supply chain officer for North America.
