MONEY: Amazon Wants to Be Your Grocery Store Too

By 2018, Amazon will be opening 20 physical grocery store locations.

Although Amazon already dominates the online shopping world, they are ready to take on brick-and-mortar shopping as well. According to a recent MONEY article, the Seattle-based e-commerce platform will be opening 20 physical grocery store locations within two years and 2,000 grocery stores over a decade.

Amazon grocery stores will have two options for shoppers that come to the new physical locations. Whether you like to shop traditionally in store, or pick up your order in store once placed through AmazonFresh, the new “click-and-collect” model will available to customers.

It’s not the brand’s first time having physical stores. In fact, Amazon already has opened physical stores in Portland, San Diego, and Seattle that are physical bookstores. The company plans to open more bookstores, according to founder Jeff Bezos, which will only add to the fight against Walmart for dominance in the shopping space.

Amazon has sold six times the amount as the following retailers combined together, while Walmart’s online reach doesn’t’ come close to comparing to Amazon’s.
