Keegan Cravo and Joe Clark, the siblings behind Mosquito Squad Plus of Hartford and Mosquito Squad Plus of Western Massachusetts, have steadily expanded their business over the past decade, growing to serve over 3,000 customers throughout the greater Hartford, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts, areas.
Keegan initially started the business with her father, Peter Clark, and Joe worked as a technician. In 2017, Joe became a co-owner, and in 2024, the siblings bought out their father.
“We had to build it from the bottom up and we now have that experience. Over the years, it’s been really great. It’s been a lot of work, obviously getting started and spending a lot of time and energy learning how to run a business and about the new industry that I didn’t know anything about before. It has paid off over the last 10 years, and it’s been going well for us,” Keegan told the Hartford Courant.
In addition to growing their customer base, Keegan and Joe have built a substantial team of 45 employees.
“The first year we bought one truck and hired two technicians plus my parents (working) in the office. At the end of that year, we hired a total of five technicians and added a second truck because we had a successful first season,” Keegan said. “Each year we’ve grown in both trucks and number of employees and that’s what we wanted to do. We want to be able to employ people and create opportunities for people around us. It’s rewarding for us.”
According to Joe, that growth shows no signs of slowing. Climate change has impacted pest behavior, and demand in the community continues to grow. This, coupled with the fact that Mosquito Squad Plus addresses more than just mosquitoes, points toward a bright future for the duo.
