Mosquito Squad Plus, the 240-plus-unit pest control franchise, has built its model around specialized pest control support. That includes its Essential Botanical Insecticide (EBI), a proprietary formula designed to help reduce the presence of pests for up to 21 days, as well as in-house entomologists who work with franchise owners across the system.

For Emma Grace Crumbley, an entomologist with Mosquito Squad, having that expertise available internally reflects the brand’s approach to pest management.

“I think it’s important to have different subject matter experts on staff, especially for something like pest management,” she said. “I think it shows a level of dedication that we have to understanding the industry and also understanding our role in it and our impact.”

Crumbley works directly with franchisees throughout the network, helping with pest identification, technician education, operational training and customer-facing communications.

Bringing Science Into the Franchise Support Model

Crumbley joined Mosquito Squad nearly four years ago after earning her bachelor’s degree in entomology from the University of Georgia. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in entomology and nematology through the University of Florida. Her role supports franchise owners at every level. She helps create training materials, leads networkwide education sessions and serves as a direct resource when operators have technical questions in the field.

“A lot of owners will reach out to me and the two common questions they have are, ‘What is this pest and what do we do about it?’” Crumbley said. “I love fielding those questions. I love answering those.”

Those conversations often start with a photo from a franchisee in the field and turn into a deeper discussion about pest biology, behavior and treatment strategy. The goal is to understand the pest first before recommending any next steps.

“In order to provide effective pest control, you really have to understand the pest and its biology,” she said. “We’re not really trying to do guesswork when we go out there. We’re not trying to assume anything.”

A More Thoughtful Approach to Pest Control

That scientific approach also shapes how Mosquito Squad works with customers. Rather than relying on broad treatment applications alone, the company emphasizes inspection, prevention and integrated pest management.

“Instead of going to a customer and spraying a ton of product, hoping that it works, we are trying to find other ways to mitigate pests before we have to use that chemical intervention,” Crumbley said.

That can include simple recommendations like removing standing water, sealing trash bins or identifying conditions around a property that are attracting insects. These small adjustments can often reduce pest activity before treatment becomes necessary.

“Small actions like that make huge differences,” Crumbley said.

Homeowners are increasingly asking questions about the products used in their yards and looking for solutions that feel more tailored to their preferences. Mosquito Squad has continued to adapt as those expectations change, including offering natural treatment options made with specifically curated essential oils and naturally derived ingredients.

“One thing that we do really well as a company is we stay up to date with industry news,” Crumbley said. “This company seems really willing to make those pivots as the industry is growing and expanding.”

Supporting Franchisees Through Expertise and Education

Beyond the company’s proprietary EBI treatment system, franchisees also have direct access to specialized knowledge that helps them educate customers. Crumbley works closely with Mosquito Squad’s communications, marketing and digital teams to ensure the brand’s messaging is accurate and educational.

"We want all of the material we share to be educational. Instead of leaning into fear with pest control, we make sure we're being transparent with our services,” she said.

By combining EBI with in-house entomology support, Mosquito Squad gives franchisees access to both established treatment tools and technical guidance in the field.
