Brian Ferraro has had quite the career so far: He worked as the Service Manager for the Mass State Lottery Commission, while also owning, operating and coaching hockey at Huskies Hockey, Ltd. in North Billerica, Massachusetts. After 20+ years at the State Lottery Commision, Ferraro decided it was time to set his focus on the Huskies and grow it into the best youth hockey development program it could be.

Now, Ferraro is focusing on another business venture—Mosquito Hunters. The mosquito and tick control concept’s newest franchisee launched his business in December 2019, along with his significant other and business partner Barbara Maher, who will serve as Director of Administration. The location will serve the Billerica, Massachusetts area.

When asked why he decided to invest in a franchise, Ferraro noted that he had always enjoyed being a small business owner and wanted to dip his toes into something new. “I really enjoy providing services to my customers and building lasting relationships with them,” he said. “I chose to franchise with Mosquito Hunters because their business model exemplifies my beliefs in what a small business should represent to its community. I felt an immediate connection with the Mosquito Hunters management team and was impressed by the extended support that I have received and continue to receive as a franchisee.”

In addition to the connection he felt with Mosquito Hunters’ small-business mindset and emphasis on customer relationships, Ferraro really felt that the brand brought value to its respective communities. “In the Northeast, there is a significant and continuously growing problem with mosquito and tick diseases that has resulted in multiple deaths over the last few years,” Ferraro explained. “Families value time outdoors but are growing increasingly concerned about potential exposure to these diseases. I believe Mosquito Hunters can restore the faith and assurances needed for individuals to be able to enjoy the outdoors again.”

Once the season starts, Ferraro is excited to get to work and even notes that he’s going to employ his business in his own backyard. “I’m excited to be able to enjoy being in my backyard and to pass this value service on to others in my territories,” he said.

Mosquito Hunters is not Ferraro’s first foray into the small-business sector, and he plans to utilize the skills he’s learned from coaching hockey to fuel his new business. “Running the Huskies hockey program taught me that being accessible to your customers and families, is one of the most important parts of running a business,” he said.

Additionally, Ferraro plans to utilize his already established network of friends and families from around the community to market and grow his Mosquito Hunters business.

As for the first few months of business, Ferraro hopes to achieve brand-name recognition with his new Mosquito Hunters business—getting his name out there “to be the guy and the business that people want to have restore their family’s time outdoors”.

Thanks to Ferraro and his Billerica, Massachusetts location, Mosquito Hunters has exceeded 80 locations across 23 states. Founded in 2014, Mosquito Hunters has become a leader in the fast-growing mosquito and tick control space focusing on consistently high profit margins, recurring revenue streams, growth potential, low cost of entry and simple business model.

The total investment necessary to open a Mosquito Hunters franchise ranges from $70,107 to $85,903. The franchise license fee ranges from $25,000 to $35,000. For more information on franchising opportunities with Mosquito Hunters, visit
