Nation’s Restaurant News: Chipotle Says Payment System Was Hacked

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. announced that its payment system may have been hacked after finding unauthorized activity, according to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article.

The company does not yet know how many restaurants or customers were affected, but CFO Jack Hartung mentioned that Chipotle’s credit card system was affected by the activity from March 24 through April 18.

After working with the company’s cyber security firm, Hartung said, “We believe the actions taken have stopped the unauthorized activity.”

Unfortunately, the news came after a strong first quarter earnings report with 17.8-percent same-store sales growth and improved profit margins.
