Nation’s Restaurant News: Consumer spending on cider soars 320%
Over the past five years, apple and pear-based alcoholic beverages have seen tremendous growth.
Americans are loving their cider—especially in 2015 compared to 2010. According to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article, Euromonitor found that on-premise consumer spending on cider rose almost 320 percent in the five-year period.
While this beverage category still only accounts for less than 1 percent of the on-premise alcoholic beverage market totaling $16 billion, it is worth noting the increase in popularity.
Over the same five-year period, spirits are the fastest growing category with the largest increase in sales with a 10.5 percent jump. Beer, bottled cocktails, and liqueurs follow after, as wine sales have seen a decline of 1.7 percent.
