Nation’s Restaurant News: Domino’s Pizza Sales Surge as Traffic Increases

Delivery sales have increased markedly compared to last year

Domino’s Pizza Inc. has announced its first quarter financial results, and the numbers are encouraging, particularly for delivery.

According to an article on nrn.com, domestic same-store sales were up 8.3 percent across the franchise system compared to the first quarter of 2017. International same-store sales we up five percent. According to outgoing CEO Patrick Doyle, those numbers far exceed the brand’s initial projections for the first quarter of 2018.

Domino’s is attributing much of that growth to an increased demand for delivery, even as the brand continues to outsource its delivery services to third-party vendors.

“To summarize the quarter, we delivered, and we delivered in every way,” Doyle said in the announcement. He added, “As our results demonstrate, we have continued to see very little impact on our business from third-party delivery.”

Earlier this year, Doyle announced that he will step down from his position as CEO at the end of June. Richard Allison, currently serving as the president of Domino’s International, will take over the role.
