Nation’s Restaurant News: KFC to Remove Antibiotics From Chicken

By the end of 2018, KFC chicken will be free of human antibiotics, according to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article. The decision could make a big impact on the entire fast food industry considering the Louisville, Kentucky-based chain is the country’s second-largest chicken concept after Chick-fil-A.

“KFC’s new policy will be a game changer for the fast-food industry and public health,” Lena Brook, food policy advocate for the NRDC, said in a statement. “The market is responding to consumer demand for better meat. This commitment from the nation’s most iconic fast-food chicken chain will have a major impact on the way birds are raised in the U.S. and in the fight against the growing epidemic of drug-resistant infections.”

Perhaps the move will improve sales like it did for McDonald’s Corp. and its Chicken McNuggets after removing antibiotics from its main menu. KFC plans to make the change across its menu for both bone-in and boneless chicken.
