Nation's Restaurant News: Moe’s doesn’t want to be a burrito chain anymore

The Mexican food franchise is looking to add a Chief Taco Officer.

Moe's Southwest Grill is on the lookout for a CTOChief Taco Officer. Nation's Restaurant News spoke with the president Bruce Schroder and he outlined why this addition to the leadership team will be important for the future of the brand.

“Our taco mix is relatively light compared to the industry,” Schroder said. “But when you peel back the onion, the folks that are growing and entering the category all have a 'taco' in their name — Fuzzy's, Velvet, Torchy's — so, defensively, we certainly want to stay relevant in the taco category, but the bigger issue is we don't want to be a burrito shop anymore. We want to be a purveyor of Southwestern food.”

In addition to the new member of the team, the franchise plans to add three tacos to their menu, the Three Amigos—steak, chicken and carnitas. In addition, Moe's will focus on their take-out and delivery service and enhancing their corporate culture so customers and employees are proud to be a part of the Moe's family.
