If your franchise brand has been wondering who, exactly, uses Twitter, the esteemed Pew Research Center has an answer. CNBC reports that in a study published today based on a survey of 2,791 U.S. adult Twitter users, Pew found that 80% of all posts come from the top 10% of the most prolific users—most of whom are women.

Pew found that 65% of these top Twitter users are women, compared to 48% of the bulk of less active Twitter users. This top group posts a median of 138 times per month, while the average Twitter user posts a median of just twice a month, noted the study. Further, Pew found that Twitter users tend to be younger, more educated and more closely affiliated with the Democratic party than the general U.S. population.
