The iconic American brand ranked among the best franchising deals after seeing its ninth straight year of consecutive growth.

In a recent ranking of the top restaurant franchising deals on QSR Magazine, A&W was ranked in the top 17 brands due to its sole focus on franchisee success. A&W, the classic American chain with 550-plus locations across the country, including more than 300 standalone restaurants, was bought by a core group of franchisees in 2011. The franchise board directs operations and makes key decisions that have proven to be successful.
The iconic, 102-year-old brand saw its ninth year of consecutive growth in 2020, and comp sales are up a whopping 51% since the core group of franchisees bought A&W. The brand also wrapped up Q2 with 14 new restaurant agreements and has another 20 in the pipeline.
“The growth we’re seeing is not pandemic momentum; it’s A&W momentum,” said John Palumbo, senior director of franchise development at A&W. “Our restaurants appeal to virtually every demographic in every generation, and as we grow our footprint, our sales have grown right along with it.”
A&W is the only quick-service restaurant chain that is 100% owned by franchisees, and the brand has territories available across the country in a variety of market sizes.
