QSR Magazine: Hackers Take Aim at Quick-Service Restaurants

Every restaurant is in danger of cybercrime and having a plan to respond is key for quick-service brands.

Franchise brands are the perfect target for would-be hackers. According to a recent QSR Magazine article, CEO and co-founder of cloud infrastructure security firm RedLock, Varun Badhwar, says a restaurant’s defense is only as good as its weakest link. Franchise restaurants allow for many potential points of entry due to different security systems across the system.

“You have to believe you are also going to be targeted,” said Badhwar, “and it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. So, proactively you need solutions.

The average cost of responding to data breaches is now $150 for each piece of compromised data, which continues to increase. Restaurants need to now have policies and plans for when it inevitably happens.
