Quick-service veterans Ed Brownell and Gail and Richard Lozoff have entered the fast-casual pizza scene without looking back. According to a recent QSR Magazine article, after seeing success founding and selling Bagel & Bagel to Einstein Bros. Bagel, the trio wanted to enter the fast-casual segment. They opened Spin! Neapolitan Pizza in Kansas City, Missouri in 2005 and the brand now has more than doubled its presence in two years with 18 units in San Francisco, Nebraska and Dallas. Spin is trying to set itself apart from the build-your-own pizza concepts with its ingredients and service style approach.

“The quality of our product is a lot different from the competition,” said Brownell. “Most of the competition is kind of cafeteria-style, where you stand in line and order your pizza and then you get it. Spin—although it’s fast casual—has an element of full service.”

Customers can order at a counter but decide if they want to food to come out all at once or in stages. This is popular with dinner guests who would like a more extended meal with appetizers and beverages. With a long list of wines and beers available, a full menu outside of pizza and a Sunday kids-eat-free promotion, Spin offers something for everyone.
