The food-service industry is leading the way for employment in America’s post-recession economy, according to RestaurantNews.com.

“The restaurant industry continued to add jobs at a steady pace in May, according to preliminary figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics,” Bruce Grindy, chief economist at the National Restaurant Association, was quoted as saying. “Eating and drinking places added a net 17,000 jobs in May on a seasonally-adjusted basis, which followed a gain of 17,800 jobs in April.”

Grindy went on to say that eating and drinking establishments rank only behind the professional and business services sector and the health care and social assistance sector in job creation since the start of the recovery, adding a net 1.7 million jobs.
