Beau Green and Bradford Meythaler are bringing Right at Home* to their hometown. The longtime family friends from Alabama are expanding their Right at Home network to 13 territories, including a new location opening this October in Bowling Green & Owensboro — the community where they grew up and first saw what strong local care looks like.
Both Green and Meythaler come from families that employed and supported people in the region, and they see this expansion as a way to continue that legacy. Their goal is to be a dependable care provider that helps seniors and adults with disabilities stay independent at home while creating new job opportunities for local residents.
Already certified as a Great Place to Work®, the business aims to share that same spirit of care in every community it reaches. Returning home, Green and Meythaler want to give back — by helping families access reliable care, creating good jobs and investing in the neighborhoods that shaped them.
Green and Meythaler sat down with 1851 Franchise to discuss their franchising journey with Right at Home. Here’s what they had to say:
1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?
Beau Green: It’s been 14 years since I opened up in Birmingham. I sold steel in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. I was in software and immediately fell in love with this business — fell in love with the people. I saw my mom caring for her parents and felt like this would be a good business to be in, to care for others.
We saw good care with my grandparents, and we saw care that left something to be desired. But I saw my mom and what a toll it took on her, and I wanted to be that relief for other families. I wanted to put myself in their shoes and be the one who takes a lot of that burden off so they can just be the daughter or the spouse.
Bradford Meythaler: I had the blessing to be around all four of my grandparents growing up in Owensboro. I saw all of them age, and I was very close with each one of them. During high school, I saw the different levels of the aging process and the different options that our communities have to offer. I had a calling to home care — it’s a great opportunity to make a difference in the local community and provide quality care to those families in need.
1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?
Meythaler: Franchising is very valuable because you do not have to reinvent the wheel. You have a support system with other Right at Home franchises, whether they’re nearby or across the country, that you can call to ask questions. You also have our corporate office in Omaha, Nebraska, that is there to coach and support you in any way they can.
1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?
Green: I did talk to a number of different franchise systems, and I opened up when I was 30. I felt like they were responsive, they treated me well and, despite my age, they took me seriously. I felt like they were kind of coaching me through even the franchising process — looking at it and understanding what that whole process looked like.
It was comfortable, and they were good communicators along the way in terms of the process, what it looked like, and all the steps. I think there were a number of great things about Right at Home specifically that stood out. Everybody had a personal story of what care looked like, and we’re no different from that.
1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?
Meythaler: A goal is to be a dependable provider in the local community, and with the aging process and disabled adults, to help them stay at home and be empowered, giving them the empowerment to be independent while being at home.
Green: We’ve been Great Place to Work® certified for the last two years in our local business, and the corporate office earned it as well. To me, that’s the greatest sign of success. Every scheduler, every operations manager, every caregiver in our organization took part, and hundreds of people gave us positive or very positive feedback — 76% of the results were either positive or very positive. That’s probably one of the proudest achievements of our organization.
Being from this territory, not only are we going back home, but we’re also bringing a strong organization back. We’re going to create opportunities — jobs, ways to serve, and chances for us to give back in the community we grew up in, where we were educated, played local sports, and where our parents worked. Now we get to bring this back home.
I feel like that’s important, but what’s even more important is that it’s an established organization with foundational truths — the pillars of who we are, what we do, and how we do it. Although there are good providers in the market, we feel really good about how we’re entering it. We’re all in this together. We don’t see it as entering a crowded space or facing a bunch of competition. Instead, we see others doing a great job, and now we’re providing an opportunity to serve as well.
We have such an aging population that there’s more work than any one organization can handle. The aging population far exceeds what the current companies in the marketplace can provide. So, it’s really special that we’re bringing an established organization into this.
We get to serve veterans. We get to serve people who have long-term care insurance. Many of them are privately paying for services, and we hope to have a Medicaid waiver in short order so that those whose care is covered by the state can reach out to us for help. About 25% of the people we care for are veterans today, and 25% have long-term care insurance that pays for their care.
That’s really important to us — that’s where we stand out. The things we do for long-term care insurance make us an attractive company for people who don’t know how to navigate their policy. In a way, we’re helping families navigate through this health care journey, and we’re a connector. We bring in other resources that may have nothing to do with Right at Home so clients can have the best possible care all around them — from long-term care insurance to what Medicare, home health, or hospice can offer. We even talk to them about facilities and choosing the right place to call home.
1851: Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?
Green: We’re third-generation family friends. Our families employed a number of people in the area as we were growing up in various capacities. So this is kind of coming back home. Our families were part of organizations that were large employers in the area, and as time goes on, we hope to be not only a great place to work but also employ many people in our organization as well.
Bradford Meythaler: Beau is 43, I’m 37, and we hope to be in this space for a long time — to impact and serve the community. We look forward to opening this new territory.
1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming franchise owners?
Meythaler: For those looking to become franchise owners, I do think it’s a comfort knowing you have a support system around you. Find something that you love to do and connect — join a team of other franchisees supporting the mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve.
