West Palm Beach, FL — Kari Janes, a multi-unit franchisee with in-home care brand Right at Home, has always embraced constant improvement. During her career in interventional radiology, Janes worked diligently to support hospice companies in offering additional relief to patients and helped referring physicians better understand the purpose of the ever-evolving industry. When she began considering the possibility of a new growth opportunity, Right at Home stood out, and she has applied that same dedication and commitment to the improvement of her business for the past four years.

On Thursday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. ET, Janes will join 1851 Franchise Publisher Nick Powills to discuss her pathway to success.

“We’re always looking to expand ourselves and grow, and Right at Home came up in a conversation, so I started looking into it,” Janes said. “I had a grandmother who lived to be 104 and was glad she was able to stay in her own home thanks to in-home care, so that was an eye-opener for me. I was also looking to make the change from living in Northern California to get back to the East Coast. All different parts of my life were meeting at once.”

Janes returned to Florida and, in early February 2020, purchased two Right at Home territories in the West Palm Beach area. Trying to get licensed and launch an office during the early days of the pandemic was certainly a challenge, but with the support of the corporate team and other owners who had started around the same time, she was able to get the business up and running.

“I got to know other owners who had started at the same time, and I think we were great support for one another,” she said. “I had a great group of people who really became friends as we helped each other along the way. ‘What did you do here?’ ‘What do you recommend?’ Being able to ask questions and bounce ideas off each other was a huge support system.”

She got a team in place and “got the business rolling” in 2021. From 2021 to 2022, Janes nearly doubled the size of her business.

“One of the hardest things in business is really trying to find your team. It takes time,” Janes said. “When you finally get your team in place, that’s really when you find the growth.”

In 2023, Janes grew her business steadily, expanding to another two territories in Indian River and Saint Lucie. She plans to grow again by at least 50% this year. Over the years, she has noted the ongoing support of the corporate team, saying they are always evolving and looking for new support opportunities.

“We have some wonderful coaches that are always there to answer questions. They’re responsive and helpful; you feel like they’re on your team,” she said. “For example, we recently got a new coach to help us more with marketing, which I think is really great. I’m impressed that the corporate team doesn’t just say, ‘Well, we’ve given you everything we have. That’s it.’ They’re always looking for new ways to help us grow.”

Janes has noted the potential that exists in the Florida market for continued growth, and with the support of the Right at Home corporate team, the dedication of her passionate team and her own commitment to bettering her community, she is looking toward a bright future.

“Now, I’m focused on major growth. Even though I haven’t taken time off yet, it doesn’t bother me. I’ve really been enjoying seeing my own growth,” Janes said. “It’s very rewarding. Sometimes you have to step back and think about where it started and how you got here. It’s not an easy path, so it’s important to take a moment to pat yourself on the shoulder and say, ‘Okay, good job. Keep going.’”

Janes is one of 45 franchisees in Florida. While Right at Home has a strong brand presence in the state, it continues to be a key market for ongoing growth. Roughly 3.8 million Baby Boomers are expected to turn 65 each year through 2029, and the vast majority of adults will need some level of long-term care support once they reach that age.

The median age of Floridians is higher than that of the average American, and with over 4.5 million people aged 65 or higher in the state, Right at Home is looking to add 13 units to address ongoing need. Targeting development in Melbourne, Fla.Daytona Beach, Fla.Gainesville, Fla.; and Panama City, Fla., Right at Home will bring in-demand services to communities in need.

For more information on her story and the opportunity for Right at Home franchise ownership in Florida, join Janes and Powills on June 6th at 11:00 a.m. ET for a live webinar discussion. Janes and Powills will dive further into her personal experience as a franchise owner, the current state of business in Florida, and how other entrepreneurs can begin to make a difference in their own communities.
