Harpreet Kaur had a very successful career in information technology but felt unfulfilled. After bumping into a franchisee at a party and discussing career paths, Kaur knew franchising was the answer. Senior care franchise Right at Home immediately appealed to her because it offered that sense of fulfillment she had been seeking.

“I have asked myself if this is what I really want to do at least 100 times, and every single time my answer has been yes,” said Kaur. “The brand’s mission is something I can truly connect with, and the work will be so rewarding.”

Kaur spoke to 1851 Franchise about her journey into franchising with Right at Home and her plans for the future.

PROFILE QUESTIONS

1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?

Kaur: I have been an IT professional throughout my career, and I have over 13 years of experience in various U.S. companies, growing as a QA analyst database programmer. Then, I moved into project and product management roles.

Last year, I left my job because I felt it was not where I belonged. I really wanted to do something on my own, and that's been in the back of my head all the time. I started exploring a good bunch of business opportunities. Early this year in February, I came across another franchisee owner at a party. We started talking about what they do and it just clicked for me. I started looking for opportunities in my area.

My territory was available where I lived and I don't like to travel a lot, so it was the perfect opportunity.

1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?

Kaur: I am actually pretty confident since it is a franchising model because I got to learn a lot from the existing franchisees and their experiences. There will always be hiccups. Although the corporate team can assist me, it's ultimately my business so I need to figure it out. Hearing from experienced franchisees helps me know what my options are because they’ve been in similar situations, which instills me with confidence and makes me feel safe. Every franchisee model is different, but with Right at Home, I believe you will get the amount of support you need.

1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?

Kaur: From day one, I was able to connect to the brand’s mission of improving the quality of life of the people we serve; that really touched me. I was able to connect with that concept immediately. Each time I ask myself the question, “Is this what I want to be doing?” I am able to answer “yes” because I feel emotionally connected to what the brand is doing. I explored other brands before making my decision, and none of them would have given me this much satisfaction.

1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?

Kaur: I'm excited and equally nervous because I'm starting from scratch. I don't want to set too many goals for myself at this point. I just want to go with the flow. I am 110% sure that the best is out there for me, and I will achieve it at the right point. I don't want to put any pressure on myself at this point.

1851: What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?

Kaur: Opportunities are out there. We just have to connect with them and make sure it is the right one for you. We have to open our eyes and see the opportunity and grab it.

1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?

Kaur: If you are thinking of becoming a franchise owner for Right at Home, you should go for it. The way they have established their business model is excellent; I have not heard of a single franchisee who does not feel supported or happy with their experience.

The initial investment required to start a Right at Home franchise ranges from  $88,719 to $157,669. For more information on franchising with Right at Home, visit https://1851franchise.com/rightathome/info.
