When Sacha Butts began looking into the senior care industry, the search became deeply personal. The U.S. Navy veteran and former federal investigator was forced to navigate a confusing web of care options following her mother’s unexpected cancer diagnosis. According to the LA Business Journal, that difficult journey through a fragmented system ultimately inspired Butts to launch her own Right at Home franchise in Simi Valley this past September.

The experience of balancing a high-pressure career with the urgent needs of an ailing parent taught Butts that the right support does more than just help the patient. She quickly found that proper professional care allowed her to step back from the role of primary caregiver to simply be a daughter again. Now, she’s bringing that same relief to Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo and Somis.

The timing of the new business meets a critical need in the region. Data from the California Department of Aging shows that the population of Ventura County residents aged 60 and older is expected to hit 240,000 by 2040. Currently, residents 65 and older already make up 30% of the county’s population, and many of these seniors expressed a clear preference for aging in place (rather than moving to institutional facilities).

Butts spent nearly a year preparing for the launch, using the same attention to detail she honed as a federal investigator to navigate complex licensing and regulatory requirements. She spent hours researching the differences between non-medical in-home care and medical home health care to ensure she could guide families through their own moments of crisis.

"It was a very long, tedious process to get my license and get everything set up,” Butts told the L.A. Business Journal of her path to Right at Home ownership. “It’s been an interesting learning experience – this is my first time owning my own business."

Her background in the Navy and as an investigator now informs how she goes about hiring. She applies a high level of scrutiny to her team, looking for the specific blend of professionalism and compassion that made such a difference for her own mother.

By joining Right at Home, Butts is tapping into a brand with more than 750 locations globally. Her goal is to move beyond the paperwork and logistics to provide a human connection for those in her community. By offering reliable support for daily tasks like cooking and cleaning, she’s giving local families the gift of time, comfort and peace of mind.
