Starting his career as an HR assistant in a senior healthcare company, he quickly rose through the ranks to become the director of operations, managing multiple nursing homes and care facilities.&nbsp;After 18 years in the industry, his passion for elder care led him to purchase a&nbsp;<a href="https://rightathomefranchise.com/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=right-at-home-franchisee-expands-from-new-jersey-to-new-york-to-provide-care-for-more-seniors-2726516" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Right at Home</a> franchise in December 2019 in Bergen County, New Jersey. Now, Dalupang is expanding his territory into West New York with the hopes of bringing more quality care to seniors in the area.“I have always had a passion for taking care of seniors, and I know the science behind it,” Dalupang said. “There’s a system for taking care of the elderly, so I knew it wouldn't be a hard transition for me. That's why I picked this industry.”&nbsp;1851 Franchise spoke to Dalupang about his franchise journey with&nbsp;<a href="https://1851franchise.com/rightathome/info">Right at Home</a> and his plans for the future.&nbsp;1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us.&nbsp;What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Lew Dalupang:&nbsp;I'm originally from the Philippines, in Southeast Asia. I came to this country back in 2002 with just my luggage and $200 in my pocket. I started working in a senior healthcare company as an HR assistant. I worked my way up and became the director of operations in 2004. I was managing two nursing homes, one assisted living, one home care and one ambulance company. I was the head of operations for 18 years. Then I decided to start my own business, and I purchased Right at Home in December of 2019. I have always had a passion for taking care of the elderly, so that's what I've been doing.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Dalupang:&nbsp;It's a good way to start a business because they provide the infrastructure and I was searching for the best and most ideal business to start up. I came across this opportunity, so I grabbed it right away.1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Dalupang:&nbsp;I have always had a passion for taking care of seniors, and I know the science behind it. What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Dalupang:&nbsp;At the end of the day, taking care of the elderly is a thankless job. It's challenging, especially dealing with family members. But my goal is to take care of the elderly because nobody else will. In terms of growth, I recently purchased another agency and combined it with mine to streamline operations. My plan is to hire more marketing personnel to capture all potential clients in Bergen County.1851:&nbsp;What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?Dalupang:&nbsp;&nbsp;That everything is possible with the right mindset, heart, passion and integrity. This country is amazing because you can achieve anything you want if you put your mind and heart into it. Coming from a third-world country, people don't even understand that hot water is a privilege there, whereas here it’s normal.1851:&nbsp;What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?Dalupang:&nbsp;My advice is to ensure that the business aligns with their interests. If it doesn't, they won't succeed. Franchises are helpful because they provide the infrastructure. Make sure your interests align with what you're doing and surround yourself with excellent people.
