One instance that demonstrates these characteristics took place during the 2022 Christmas season.&nbsp; The caregiver planned to spend the Christmas Day holiday with her family and friends, but when she learned other caregivers had also requested the day off, she worried that many clients without loved ones would be alone on the holiday. So, she decided she would be the one to bring those clients an abundance of holiday cheer.Bailiff put on her Santa hat, visited each client's home, and presented them with a small gift and a stocking filled with homemade treats she had baked and wrapped. She also spent quality time with each client, engaging in conversation, taking selfies, and enjoying hot cocoa and cookies.&nbsp;This is just one instance of Bailiff’s kindness, which has always extended beyond holidays. Navy veteran&nbsp;<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/rightathomeperrysburg/">John Baldwin</a> has traded the tight confines of nuclear submarines for a different kind of high-stakes environment: families trying to keep aging loved ones safe at home.Baldwin, 64, owns a&nbsp;<a href="https://rightathomefranchise.com/">Right at Home</a> franchise in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rightathome.net/perrysburg">Perrysburg, Ohio</a>, providing in-home support for seniors who want to stay where they are most comfortable. “We do in-home care and assistance for the elderly to help them age in place,” Baldwin&nbsp;<a href="https://toledofreepress.com/beneath-the-surface-the-veteran-behind-right-at-home/">told Toledo Free Press</a>. That’s the business, in a nutshell.”His first career ran deep beneath the ocean. Baldwin served as a submariner from 1979 to 1985, part of the Navy’s nuclear program. He described the pace as relentless and the learning curve steep, moving from nuclear power school to instructing on a prototype and then joining the submarine fleet. Patrols could last three to four months, he said, and the routine blurred time into a single, rolling stretch of days.After leaving the Navy, Baldwin spent two decades at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station. But when his parents and in-laws needed help later in life, he ran into a problem many adult children recognize immediately: finding care that feels both reliable and personal.“God redirected my career path in a big way,” Baldwin said, describing the experience that led him to home care and, eventually, to Right at Home. He opened his franchise in 2010.Today, Baldwin focuses on matching caregivers with clients in a way that makes support feel welcome, not intrusive. Care can range from a couple of visits a week to full-time help, depending on where a family is in the aging process, he said.Baldwin also makes a point to ask new clients a direct question — whether they served — and to steer veterans and their families toward benefits they may not realize are available. Through the Strategic Leadership Council, a group of franchise representatives who share systemwide feedback, owners repeatedly asked for a mobile tool that could simplify onboarding, training and document sharing.“Our franchise owners wanted an app they could use to access training materials, handle onboarding, and share documents from their phones,” Chaney said. “So we partnered with Encapture, and it’s been a huge win for everyone.”<h2>Where Growth Is Headed</h2>As Right at Home plans for the year ahead, its development team is turning its focus toward several key markets, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and Iowa. Each offers favorable licensing requirements and growing populations of seniors who need care, as the company looks to close in on more rural areas that have historically lacked enough senior care options. Right at Home wants to enter these markets to truly make a difference in the lives of the elderly in those communities.Technology will continue to play a central role in 2026.
