In Missouri’s St. Louis County, nearly 500,000 residents are age 45 and older, including about 200,000 who are 65 and older. It’s the type of statistic that highlights the growing demand for care services provided within the home. Founded in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1995, Right at Home offers personal care and companionship for seniors and adults with disabilities, continually tweaking a model that’s increasingly in demand as Baby Boomers approach retirement.

Ed Wilson, who spent nearly two decades in commercial real estate and finance, made the pivot to home care out of a desire to make a greater impact on people.

“The most important factor was having a positive impact on individual lives,” Wilson told Saint Charles County Community News. “I came from a corporate finance background, which I enjoyed and where I built great relationships. But I felt something was missing. I always wanted to be a small business owner. And while I never thought I would go into home care, it checked many boxes for me, especially being relationship-driven.”

Serving central St. Louis, St. Charles and South County since August 2025, Wilson employs a total of about 100 caregivers, nurses and office staff members. In-home personnel provide nonmedical care, assisting with daily activities such as meal prep, housekeeping and personal hygiene. Basic human necessities like companionship are also central to Right at Home’s approach.

“Our mission is to provide compassionate, personalized home care that enhances quality of life, promotes independence and brings peace of mind to families. We are dedicated to treating every client with dignity, respect and kindness,” Wilson said. “While our team members may come from different backgrounds with different specialties, they all have a strong focus on providing excellent in-home care using the unique skills they bring to the job.”

The St. Louis franchise was recently recognized by Activated Insights with the 2025 Best of Home Care® Leader in Experience, Provider of Choice and Employer of Choice awards, reflecting a franchise commitment to both clients and caregivers. Looking forward, Wilson hopes to expand services further across the St. Louis metro area and into the Department of Veterans Affairs space, delivering both service and growth with a simple long-term goal.

“Our goal is to be the best-in-class home care agency in the St. Louis area,” he said.

As demand for in-home care grows across the country, Wilson’s Right at Home franchise clearly shows just how local franchise ownership, when properly combined with national resources, can provide compassionate care at the local level.
