Jobin Mathai, the owner of Right at Home of South Dallas, had deep experience in the franchise world before becoming a franchisee himself. Having spent over two decades climbing the ranks as a McDonald’s operations leader, he understood the franchise model and how to run a successful business. So, when he began looking to transition to doing something for himself, investing in a franchise made perfect sense. With personal experience as a caregiver, he found that Right at Home, the more than 700-unit in-home care franchise, was the perfect fit. After opening in Dallas in 2023, Mathai quickly jumped into a community-focused approach to business leadership and has achieved steady growth since.
“I learned a lot from August through December of 2023; things got real at that point,” Mathai said. “But that set us up for a great year in 2024. We started getting out into the community and getting some traction. Being engaged in the community, taking care of both our caregivers and clients … That helped us get going.”
Thanks to his experience at McDonald’s, Mathai knew how to manage teams and perfect local operations. This gave him confidence as he stepped into the home care space, and it empowered him to look more deeply at his team, improve internal support and ultimately deliver even better service to his clients.
Now, Mathai has expanded to open a satellite Right at Home office in a second territory, increasing his reach and impact on team members, clients and communities even further.
Mathai will join 1851 Franchise Publisher Nick Powills for a webinar on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. CT. He’ll discuss how he became a Right at Home owner, how he has grown the business and what prospective franchisees should know.

When Mathai first discovered Right at Home, he was largely influenced by its reputation and his evaluation of its structure. He had witnessed franchise operations before, and he had a clear understanding of the value of a proven model. As he looked toward his transition to franchisee, he was excited about the opportunity to leverage corporate guidance while still running his own local business, building something for himself and making a true community impact.
Over the past three years, Right at Home has provided the consistent support Mathai desires. He has leaned on a franchise coach and fellow franchise owners to stay a part of the Right at Home community and collaborate with those who share his experience as a franchise owner.
“We’ve now grown to about 50 team members,” he said. “As we grow, we’ve been blessed by being in Dallas. We do have access to a lot of quality caregivers we can recruit, and I’m connected with fellow franchise owners to collaborate with as I navigate expansion.”
Today, Mathai’s top priorities are client service and healthy growth. He prioritizes fair wages and educational support to build out the team and promote retention. And through happy, dedicated caregivers and consistent community involvement, he has also been able to grow his local charity, St. Jude Senior Hope Haven, which has completed tens of thousands of dollars of charitable work benefiting seniors, caregivers, and other community members in need.
As the industry continues to grow and demand climbs across Texas, Right at Home is looking to partner with passionate entrepreneurs to bring 11 more offices to the state, targeting development in South Houston, Brownsville, Laredo, Victoria, Midland, McAllen and Corpus Christi.
