Soft pretzels are a Philadelphia staple, right up there with cheesesteaks and pork rolls. Though the famous Philly treat is more than capable of standing alone, the heavens rejoice when the fluffy dough is paired with an all-beef Dietz and Watson hot dog.

For the first time ever, on Thursday, July 23, Philly Pretzel Factory will be celebrating National Hot Dog Day by giving away pretzel dogs to the first 300 people who walk through their doors.

“National Soft Pretzel Day is always a huge promotion for us, so we thought celebrating National Hot Dog Day would be a good way to show our customers we appreciate them,” Dan DiZio, CEO of Philly Pretzel Factory, told South Jersey Local News. “People can try one for the first time or those who love them already can get one for free.”

Franchisee Patrick Scott said he’s excited to see local residents celebrate the event.

“It’s going to be interesting to see if people come out early for this because it’s more of a lunch item,” Scott told South Jersey Local News.

Once the first 300 free Pretzel Dogs are given away, the delectable dogs will be $1 the remainder of the day.

“It’s an inexpensive lunch item even when not $1,” he said.

While National Hot Dog Day may be a new promotion for the pretzel purveyors, it’s just one of many that the company runs throughout the course of the year. In October and April, the company celebrates Pretzelfest and National Pretzel Day, respectively. As the brand grows nationally, DiZio looks forward to informing the world on how Philly does pretzels.

“Outside our market, people don’t understand why you’d buy 50 pretzels,” DiZio said. “We want to drive home that they are great for meetings, parties, soccer moms, and other events.”
