Steve Mnuchin: “We are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15”

Americans will have three additional months to file their returns.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced in a tweet Friday morning that the deadline for Americans to submit tax forms and payments to the IRS will be extended to July 15.

Mnuchin tweeted:

At @realDonaldTrump’s direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.

The extension will give Americans three extra months to file and pay taxes without incurring additional fees.

Mchuhin’s announcement arrived on the same day Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell is expected to introduce a massive $1 trillion economic relief plan to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak that has shuttered businesses and left millions of Americans out of work.
