Sun Herald: Young Smoothie King Franchisee Finds Success in the Gulf Coast

The Millennial franchisee is opening his seventh Smoothie King.

This month Clay Koenig will open his seventh Smoothie King location. After a career for the Smoothie King corporate offer, Koenig decided to become a franchisee and jumped into business ownership.

For his business partner, Travis Bolster, the Gulfport location will be his 12th location.

The company wanted him to continue with corporate development, said Stephen Foley, franchise development manager for Smoothie King.

“He wanted to build stores and build brand,” Foley said.

Four years ago Koenig and Bolster formed a company and opened their first store together in Mobile, Alabama. Soon after, they opened locations in D’Iberville, Mississippi; Tallahassee, Florida; Biloxi, Mississippi; another in Mobile, Alabama; and then Slidell, Louisiana.

Once the Gulfport location opens, the business duo have plans for a new store in Laurel this spring and another in Tallahassee.
