Instagram is officially competing with YouTube in the content creation space. The social media platform launched IGTV, which will serve as a place where Instagram users can upload long-form videos that are up to an hour in length. According to a recent article in TechCrunch, IGTV is available both through a button in the standard Instagram app and through its own standalone app.

The launch of IGTV opens a lot of doors for brands to capitalize on the ability to post longer videos. IGTV is allowing anyone to be a creator — the platform isn’t being limited to big names or celebrities. And while there aren’t ads or commercials on IGTV right now, it’s likely that down the road, brands will have the ability to advertise and market their products throughout those longer videos. Given that Instagram has 1 billion users, that’s an opportunity that brands — both in and out of the franchise industry — won’t want to miss.
