Today, Instagram announced a major&nbsp;change in their algorithm. In a move to keep the app fresh,&nbsp;<a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/03/22/instagram-recent/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=techcrunch-instagram-will-show-more-recent-posts-due-to-algorithm-backlash-2706014" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">TechCrunch</a>&nbsp;shared, newer posts will now appear at the top of users&#39; feeds and the option to manually auto refresh will now be available so users are not bumped to the top of their feed when scrolling.&nbsp;

Kevin Weil, VP of Product at Instagram stated in a <a href="https://twitter.com/kevinweil/status/976842916118302723?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&amp%3Bref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftechcrunch.com%2F2018%2F03%2F22%2Finstagram-recent%2F&amp%3Btfw_creator=TechCrunch&amp%3Btfw_site=TechCrunch&utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=techcrunch-instagram-will-show-more-recent-posts-due-to-algorithm-backlash-2706014" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">tweet</a>, We&#39;re working every day to improve your Instagram feed&mdash;with your feedback top of mind! We want to start talking more about what we&#39;re changing and why. Today is our first step, focused on making the feed fresher, with newer posts closer to the top.

The update will help brands&#39; posts be viewed by more users because the previous algorithm penalized promotional-type posts.&nbsp;

The change comes on the heels of the apps parent&nbsp;company, Facebook, fighting the&nbsp;<a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/03/21/zuckerberg-cambridge-analytica/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=techcrunch-instagram-will-show-more-recent-posts-due-to-algorithm-backlash-2706014" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Cambridge Analytica scandal </a>announced&nbsp;earlier this week and ongoing complaints regarding the site&#39;s algorithm.&nbsp;
