The platform sold millions more of the device this year compared to last year&#39;s sales.

Amazon actually sold out of new Alexa-enabled devices, and there is a now a waitlist to purchase them. The uptick in sales was accompanied by an increase in downloads of the corresponding app, suggesting that buyers have been setting up the products.

The retailer&#39;s success this holiday season reflects the growing online shopping trend and consumer demand for integrating technology into the home. Amazon gained more than four million new Prime members over the course of a single week before the holidays.
