Effective communication is the cornerstone of a franchise relationship. Franchisors and franchisees need to ask the right questions in order to clearly understand each other and support one another. Clear channels of dialogue ensure the highest possibility of success and a true understanding of the culture and mission of a franchise.

Utilize field support members

There are many resources within a franchise office. Utilize the home office as a resource and a tool to understand things that may seem murky. Understand who would be the best individual to speak to for specific questions.

Take advantage of regional or local meetings

Annual brand conventions, local meetings and bi-annual get-togethers are a great way to keep in contact with not only the franchisor, but other franchisees in the system. Networking, asking questions, listening and sharing are all beneficial and proactive approaches to bettering your business.

Keep yourself well-informed

Follow your brand in the media. If a fellow franchisee or the brand is on a TV segment or in a newspaper article, digest the information. Staying on top of what is going on within the system is a great way to get a well-rounded look into all the workings of the operation.

Get involved with professional organizations

See if the corporate office is affiliated with any charities or community outreach associations; this can help with networking in your local area and gets you involved with projects that are directly related to the company.

Sign up for newsletters

Read all about what is going on in the company, and even better –submit your own story. Allowing others to interact with your own business is a great way to gain more insight and advice that could be used to further success.
