Top Franchise Legal Players: Mike Drumm, Beer and Franchise Attorney at Drumm Law, LLC
As a young lawyer, Mike Drumm needed a massage one regular workday — and that’s how he ended up entering the world of franchise law.
Mike Drumm said it was “luck” that brought him to his franchise law career. But after hearing his story, anyone can tell this attorney’s entrepreneurial spirit was well underway even in the game.
Drumm detailed that day he entered the franchise realm: “The manager of the massage studio said, ‘Well, we’re thinking of franchising. Are you a franchise attorney?’ I said, ‘Absolutely, I am.’ But I wasn’t at the time.”
From there, Drumm gave them a business card and met with the other attorneys at his firm to fill them in on his new client — and to ultimately learn about franchising.
Drumm’s entrepreneurial personality ties into his now-love of franchising, as he enjoys working with others to open their own businesses.
“I started my own business, and I love dealing with business owners,” Drumm said. “It’s guaranteed legal work. That's kind of hard to come by sometimes.”
Now that Drumm has perfected his franchising knowledge, he has some short and simple advice for the prospective franchisee.
“You are playing by someone else’s rules, so you need to understand what the rulebook says,” he said. “It’s their brand and their system.”
