Franchise Marketing Radio: Frank Ponce with Uni K Wax

Frank Ponce recently appeared on Rob Gandley’s Franchise Marketing Radio podcast, where he shared his journey from a technology company in South Florida to joining Uni K Wax in 2018. His current role involves managing day-to-day operations, opening studios and training franchisees and personnel. Transitioning from the corporate tech world to franchising has allowed him to make quicker decisions and see their immediate impact.

Ponce highlighted Uni K Wax's adaptation of modern technology to enhance customer experience. When he joined, he identified a need to streamline processes and integrate technology into their services. 

"We had a great product. It's an all-natural product. We have great techs or waxers,” he said. “I think the part that was missing was being able to adapt to today's world and streamline the process to really help customers feel connected and have them identify with who we were."

Initiatives included enabling booking and payment through an app and implementing a robust point-of-sale (POS) system that launched in early 2020, just before the pandemic. This POS system was pivotal in supporting the brand’s membership program, the K Pass, and improving operational efficiency by allowing customers to book, check in and pay seamlessly.

Regarding artificial intelligence (AI), Ponce explains that Uni K Wax currently uses it to enhance customer communication and streamline routine tasks. "In the future, AI can really help support the following phase,” he said. “Without eliminating or taking over anyone's position, we could actually just use it to enhance the customer experience."

Ponce foresees AI playing a larger role in the future without having to sacrifice or replace human interaction. The brand's focus remains on refining their existing systems and processes to deliver exceptional service consistently.
