Those looking to express their feelings with the help of the iconic sweethearts candies will be remiss this year, according to an article in <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2019/01/23/sweethearts-candy-missing-from-shelves-this-year-for-valentines-day/2655352002/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=valentines-enthusiasts-soon-to-be-broken-hearted-as-sweethearts-candy-maker-goes-out-of-business-2708974" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" style="text-decoration-line:none" target="_blank">USA Today</a>. 

&ldquo;Sweethearts will be missing from the shelves this year, as the company that makes the candy, the New England Confectionary Co. [sic], went out of business,&rdquo; according to the article.

In March 2018, &ldquo;panic-buying ensued from shoppers&rdquo; following the breaking of news &ldquo;that Necco may be folding,&rdquo; according to the article. The company was later bought via auction by &ldquo;Round Hill Investments, who then sold the company to Spangler Candy Co. in September. With only five months left until Valentine&#39;s Day, Spangler did not have enough time to produce a large number of Sweethearts,&rdquo; the article said.

The good news: &ldquo;Kirk Vashaw, the CEO of Spangler Candy Co., told the candy website: &lsquo;We are looking forward to announcing the relaunch of Sweethearts for the 2020 Valentine&#39;s Day season,&rsquo;&rdquo; the article said.
