Waffle House Closes 30 Restaurants Due to Hurricane Michael

Famous for remaining open during natural disasters, Waffle House was forced to close several locations due to the extreme Category 4 hurricane.

Waffle House has become so synonymous with resilience in the face of extreme weather that FEMA developed an informal index named after the brand to gauge the severity of a natural disaster’s impact on an area.

In the face of Hurricane Michael, however, 30 of the brand’s Florida and Georgia locations in the path of the storm were shuttered as of Wednesday night, according to an article in USA TODAY. At least one location suffered significant damage, the article noted.

Hurricane Michael made landfall on Wednesday as a Category 4 storm with wind speeds up to 155 mph, just two miles shy of a Category 5.
