Brad Williams grew up around the home services franchise industry. His parents were franchisees for a lawn maintenance company, so when the time came for him to enter into the business world, it only made sense that he, too, would own a home services franchise.

Today, Williams and his wife are multi-unit and multi-brand franchise owners within Threshold Brands, the 500-unit franchisor behind nationally recognized home service franchises including MaidPro, Men In Kilts, Pestmaster Services, FlyFoe, USA Insulation, Sir Grout, Heating + Air Paramedics and Plumbing Paramedics. The couple owns several MaidPro locations in their home state of Tennessee and, after finding success with the franchise, decided to expand their portfolio with Men In Kilts.

“When we were looking to start our first franchise, we wanted something that had low-overhead because we were investing with our own nest egg,” said Williams. “We were sold by the experience and personality of the MaidPro team and the brand’s recurring revenue model is such a growth tool from one month, or year, to the next.”

Seven years later and the couple’s initial MaidPro location has grown to include multiple territories. At that point, the two were beginning to look for another challenge and a new, complementary brand to bring to their local community.

“Men In Kilts caught my eye when we started looking for another brand to franchise with. I just couldn’t get it out of my mind,” said Williams. “As we dug deeper we saw that the margins were very healthy, and we immediately went after it.”

Another major selling point for Williams aside from the brand’s attractive margins: its distinct uniform and eye-catching logo.

“We’ve worked with exterior cleaning services on our own home and, each year when it’s time to book a service, I could never remember which service we had used the year before. It was always a small independent person,” said Williams. “After seeing the Men In Kilts uniform, it immediately stuck with me. I knew that, regardless of the market, consumers aren’t going to forget this brand. When consumers see someone in a kilt, they ask questions. That’s exactly what we wanted.”

As soon as Williams was ready to launch his Men In Kilts franchise, he had a list of existing customers who were clamoring for his services. “When people have a good experience with you, you begin to build their trust. That trust then extends to the next brand that you create, setting you up for immediate success.”

Not only was Williams able to tap into his own customer base when launching Men In Kilts but he was also able to keep his startup costs low by leveraging existing office staff, a benefit that not only keeps well with the bottom line of the business but also creates growth opportunities for staff.

As one of the newest multi-brand owners within the Threshold Brands network, Williams now has extensive interaction with the corporate leadership team and has received a first-hand look at the way that Threshold Brands is working to streamline brand operations system wide.

“Executive leadership has truly streamlined the standards across the brand,” said Williams. “Every Men In Kilts franchise owner is operating the same way with the same equipment and technology, creating consistency from location to location. As a result, customers know that, when they choose Men In Kilts, they will receive service that meets their high standards, regardless of the market or territory they are in.”

Now, while Williams focuses his attention on launching his newest Men In Kilts location, he’s already considering adding another brand to his franchise portfolio.

“One of the benefits of partnering with a multi-brand franchisor like Threshold Brands is the ability to easily expand to become multi-brand owners within the Threshold umbrella,” said R. Scott Sutton, chief growth officer at Threshold Brands. “Our structure allows owners to grow laterally within our system, just like Brad, expanding their portfolio and revenue potential while benefiting from the ability to leverage existing relationships within their territory.”

The total investment necessary to begin operation of a Men In Kilts franchise business ranges from $157,290 to $191,950. For more information about franchising with Men In Kilts, visit: https://meninkiltsfranchising.com/
