Amazon is taking advantage of consumers' willingness to pay more for the ease of online shopping, quick shipping and video streaming. According to a recent Yahoo Finance article, Amazon.com will be raising its monthly fee for Amazon Prime. In addition to the annual fee, customers will now have to pay $12.99, up from $10.99. College students will also see a dollar increase for the Amazon Prime Student membership.

In 2014, the company had increased the membership fees by 25 percent to $99. As consumers continue to increase their online shopping habits, Amazon Prime is a big part of the e-commerce giant’s strategy for growth. Despite the bad news for consumers, Amazon’s shares went up 1.2 percent in early Friday trading.?
