For Alan Oversmith and Joe Turbeville, this moment has been a long time coming. The pair, who have worked together for years, is bringing TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, America’s number-one moving franchise, to its 46th state with a location in Warwick, Rhode Island. The brand already has more than 380 locations worldwide and recently expanded into Vermont, its 45th state, earlier this year. The leading moving franchise is on a mission to move people forward and has already performed more than 8.5 million moves since its inception in 1985.

Oversmith has been with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® since 2005. He owns four locations in Michigan, two locations and five territories in Boston and now one location in Rhode Island. Joe Tuberville started with the brand in 2014 as a franchise business consultant at the company’s Home Office. He was then hired by Oversmith the following year to be the general manager of his Michigan locations. The rest, as they say, is history.

“Alan and I hit it off and did well right off the bat,” said Turbeville. “At the time, he had three locations. We started growing the franchise and turning better profits, and within a couple of years, Alan was able to add a fourth unit. Then in 2019, we had the opportunity to buy Boston, and I officially became a franchisee at that time.”

How TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Develops Employees into Franchisees

The path from TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® employee to franchise owner is not uncommon within the brand’s system. Turbeville first learned the ins and outs of the business as a franchise business consultant at the company’s Home Office. There, he says, the corporate team was dedicated to training consultants and leaving plenty of room for ideas that furthered brand development.

“We say that TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is dedicated to moving people forward, and that applies to our employees as well,” said Randy Shacka, the brand’s president. “About a third of our franchise owners started as movers and drivers, which is a testament to our culture and our commitment to their success. Joe’s development from general manager to franchisee has been an amazing journey, and we’re thrilled to watch him and Alan break into Rhode Island.”

Rhode Island is the Next Stop in National Expansion

Being the first to operate in Rhode Island is an exciting opportunity for Oversmith and Turbeville, but there is an added bonus. Whereas the other locations in their portfolio were all acquisitions, the Warwick location is their first “startup,” giving them the chance to build their business from scratch and accomplish a joint business goal.

“We are blazing a new trail,” said Oversmith. “What happens with the brand, our reputation and the jobs we provide to the community is all on us. It’s a good kind of pressure, and we’re honored to have the opportunity.”

Over the next three to five years, the pair aims to open at least three additional TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations in Rhode Island while growing their overall East Coast operations.

Oversmith shared, “We would love to be the number-one moving company in Rhode Island, well-known for our customer service. Our hope is to have continuous growth year after year in order to move both our customers and our employees forward.”

The initial investment for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® ranges from $100,000 to $595,000. To learn more about franchising opportunities with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, visit www.franchise.twomenandatruck.com.
