Attention Plant-Based Restaurants: Make Way for Subway!

One meatless meatball marinara sandwich, please!

Subway is following in the footsteps of other major restaurant brands by announcing plans to serve plant-based food options starting next month and it has people questioning, “Could the new Beyond Meatball Marinara surpass one of the sandwich chain’s most popular sub choices: the OG Meatball Marinara?

For a limited time only, Subway will be testing the plant-based sub at 685 locations in the U.S. and Canada, so you’re going to want to get your hands on this sandwich while you can! The vegetarian version of the fan-favorite sandwich will be lathered in marinara sauce and topped with Provolone cheese.

The vegan population has been fighting for more representation in the fast-food industry for years. Many vegans are sounding off on Twitter as they celebrate Subway’s new sandwich.

While this is a fairly young relationship, Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown “looks forward to a long-term partnership with Subway,” Restaurant Business stated in an article.

Subway isn’t the only chain hopping on the plant-based bandwagon. Burger King recently announced its collaboration with Impossible Foods to create its new menu item, the Impossible Whopper

It sounds like faux meat is taking over the QSR industry and has everyone wondering, “Which restaurant is next?”
