Nationwide mosquito control company&nbsp;<a href="http://mosquitojoefranchise.com/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=birmingham-business-journal-mosquito-joe-continues-rapid-growth-by-targeting-birmingham-alabama-for-development-6342" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Mosquito Joe</a> is looking to expand into the Birmingham, Alabama area. Mosquito Joe COO&nbsp;Brian Garrison told the Birmingham Business Journal why the company is focusing on Birmingham.

&quot;We&rsquo;ve got a real nice presence along the Gulf Coast, in Tennessee and Atlanta, but we think Birmingham is a great fit for our businesses,&quot; Mosquito Joe COO Brian Garrison told the Birmingham Business Journal. &quot;We run a territory based on a certain number of single-family households, and Birmingham is easily a three to five territory location.&quot;

Mosquito Joe Franchisee Gail Yongue told the Birmingham Business Journal that the presence of Zika virus has led to a lot of business this year.&nbsp;

&quot;In general, more people this year when calling would be forthcoming about being pregnant and concerns about protecting their pregnancy,&quot; Yongue told the Birmingham Business Journal. &quot;I also had customers with kids and the unknown of what zika could potentially do.&quot;

Garrison also told the Birmingham Business Journal that Mosquito Joe is not an expert on the virus, but is vital in stopping the spread of Zika.&nbsp;

&quot;We really want to emphasize we&rsquo;re not experts on the virus, but we can help be part of the solution,&quot; Garrison told the Birmingham Business Journal. &quot;We have more than doubled our customer count in the past year nationwide. We&rsquo;re well north of 60,000 customers and we expect that will continue. The spike has really been in call volume for prospective franchisees and for customers particularly since mid-August when the CDC announced there was locally transmitted Zika.&quot;
