With a focus on assembling dedicated teams and maintaining high ethical standards, his goal is to grow a sustainable business that provides exceptional care to seniors.&nbsp;1851 Franchise spoke with Cannon about his franchising journey and his plans for the future.&nbsp;1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us.&nbsp;What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Brad Cannon: I graduated from college with degrees in psychology and health care administration. Right out of college, I became a licensed nursing home administrator and practiced in Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida. I always dreamed of owning my own business and saw the value of the teams we created in nursing homes, both in terms of impact on seniors and financial success. I thought, “If I can build teams and do this for others, I can do it for myself.” So, I researched different concepts and got into franchising in 2002 with a different brand. I spent 20 years as a franchisee within that network, growing it to seven franchises across three states with about 500 employees. After selling that business on May 31, 2022, I took two years off and decided to reenter the home care space, continuing my nearly 30-year journey of serving seniors.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Cannon: My perception of franchising was limited, but I saw its value in having a proven plan, especially when aligned with the right franchisor. There are different types of entrepreneurs, and I consider myself good at execution but not as strong at creating the plan. Franchising offers a proven plan, and success comes down to how well you can execute that plan.1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Cannon:&nbsp;Right at Home was a worthy competitor of mine for years, and I knew some people in leadership positions there, which told me their culture was good. After my two-year hiatus, I explored getting back into health care and found that Right at Home's culture, leadership and approach aligned with what I wanted. Their culture is about people and syncs well with my values.1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Cannon:&nbsp;The goal is to grow a large multi-unit organization, just like I did with my previous company. With a wonderful CEO and experienced teams, we aim to build a multi-unit organization with strong systems and good people. We want to grow a business that is not built on a house of cards, being above reproach in every aspect. Growth will depend on how quickly and effectively we can achieve these goals.1851:&nbsp;What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?Cannon:&nbsp;My faith is very important to me, and while business is significant, it is secondary. My faith drives me, and I approach this business as a way to serve people, especially seniors and their families during tough times.1851:&nbsp;What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?Cannon: Do your due diligence. Evaluate not just the business model but also the franchisor you are partnering with. All franchise models and cultures are not equal.
