The idea of pizza for breakfast is not a new one but now restaurants across the country are getting in on the action. That is an 18 percent increase in the last five years, according to a new study from
Datassential.
Breakfast pizza gained popularity during the recession when many restaurants, both quick service and regular, tried to find new ways to get consumers in the door. Big name franchises like
Sbarro and certain
Dominos currently sell the menu item with more expected to carry it in the near future. Breakfast food experienced a significant spike during the recession, experiencing a 20 percent increase in revenue from 2007 to 2011, according to a
Mintel report.
