Breakfast Wars: Dunkin' Adds Breakfast Bowls to Menu

Dunkin’s latest move comes amid a surge of quick-service operators revamping their menus to capture market share from their competitors.

Dunkin’ has long been a powerhouse in breakfast segment, and as competitors like McDonald’s and Panera mare making moves to establish themselves as A.M. competition, the brand is tightening its grip through menu innovation.

This week, Dunkin’ announced the addition of two new breakfast bowls to its menu: The Egg White Bowl, made with egg whites, spinach, roasted potatoes, cheddar cheese and onions; and the Sausage Scramble Bowl, made with scrambled eggs, sausage, cheddar cheese, peppers and onions.

According to a recent CNN article that cited NPD research, the morning is the only true growth market for fast-food operators, as breakfast sales at these restaurants rose 1% last year. As a result, the article noted, brands are investing in their morning offerings more than ever in order to draw consumers away from preparing breakfast at home with elevated options and increased convenience.
