Business is Booming at Wendy's Thanks to Spicy Chicken Nuggets

Who knew that a spicy twist on the classic chicken nugget would contribute to making Wendy’s an almost-billion dollar business?

Thanks to Chance the Rapper’s plea for the return of the iconic spicy chicken nuggets from Wendy’s, the fast food chain re-released the popular product this past August. But, will Wendy’s make its spicy nuggets a permanent item on the menu? How could they not? Wendy’s same-store sales rose 4.4% in North America in the third quarter, according to Restaurant Business.

“Spicy nuggets are working,” Wendy’s CEO Todd Penegor said, according to the article.

After customers began demanding the resurrection of the fan-favorite chicken nuggets on Twitter, Wendy’s gave in––and perhaps it was the best decision they could have made based on the resulting skyrocketing sales and stocks. Wendy’s stock increased by 2% on the morning of October 11 and is up 15% over the past year, the article states.

Wendy’s also plans “to spend $20 million this year to prepare for its breakfast introduction in the first quarter of next year,” according to Restaurant Business. Executives believe the fast food brand’s new breakfast line could become 10% of its sales, which would make Wendy’s a nearly $1 billion business.

How will Wendy’s spice up its menu next?
