This year, several companies including Hard Rock International have begun to move away from using plastic straws. According to a recent article in Yahoo Finance, California hopes to take this initiative to the next level by limiting their use across the entire state. The law would require customers to directly ask for straws in order to receive them.

The reason behind this change is an effort to reduce pollution and become more environmentally friendly. It follows other movements across the nation including a decline in plastic bag and utensil use. In order to enforce the plastic straw ban, California plans to fine restaurants who fail to comply on a daily basis.
