How Caring Transitions Sets Franchisees Up for Success with Multiple Revenue Streams

The booming senior-focused brand that aids families with downsizing, right-sizing, estate sales and online auctions, and move management solutions offers franchisees a variety of ways to build business.

Caring Transitions, a franchise brand dedicated to assisting families with senior relocation, downsizing, estate sales and more, has carved a unique niche in the industry by offering a comprehensive array of services to its clients. As a result, Caring Transitions franchisees have access to multiple revenue streams and the ability to build a thriving business while making a meaningful impact on their communities.

Gina Siegel, owner of Caring Transitions of Cincinnati East, for example, was first drawn to the brand after the overwhelming responsibilities that came with her parents' declining health that led her to resign from her job and focus on caregiving. The challenges she faced during this time, including moving her parents multiple times and liquidating properties, highlighted the need for professional support.

“I felt like I did everything wrong and was taken advantage of by a buyer because I didn’t know the value of things back then. It was painful and a heartache,” said Siegel. This experience fueled her desire to help other families avoid similar struggles. “When we discovered Caring Transitions, we did our research and realized this was the best company for us to use our suffering experience and turn it into something good.”

Since launching her business in 2019, Siegel has witnessed significant growth, and says the variety of revenue streams has played a huge role in her success.

“The experience of moving a loved one has so many tentacles to it — you have to manage the cognitive component, the physical component, the emotional component, the financial decisions,” said Siegel. “All of our decisions were made in crisis mode, but Caring Transitions could have helped us with every part of our journey. We offer decluttering support, electronic space plans, relocation services including packing and unpacking, move management, liquidation services including private buyers, online auctions, estate sales and donation and clean outs.”

Speaking of estate sales, Siegel says CTBids in particular has become a major part of her business. The brand’s proprietary online auction site has nearly 700,000 registered users and over 10 million views a month. Franchisees can coordinate and facilitate online auctions for the client through the powerful proprietary platform and receive a portion of the liquidation sales to maximize their income. Ninety percent of all listed items on the platform are sold.

“It allows families to work with one trusted source from start to finish,” said Siegel. “We can help them discern the difference between items to discard, donate or sell. We also help coach them to let go of things. I could have used someone like that to help me with my parents. We can sell as much as possible and appropriate in the house, and whatever is left with donation value, we can use to support local nonprofits.”

Andy Beard, owner of Caring Transitions of Augusta, is another franchisee who came to the brand after a personal experience. “I worked for a senior living community and I was looking for resources to help families that wanted to move into assisted living and memory care,” he said. “That is where I read about Caring Transitions and I thought it’d be so great to bring it to the Augusta area. I went home everyday to my wife and said, ‘We could be helping so many families.’”

Fueled by this mission, Beard opened his franchise in January 2020. Despite the challenges of the pandemic that came shortly thereafter, Beard was able to continue growing his business thanks in large part to the wide variety of services he could lean on, particularly online auctions. Three years later, he had reached the million-dollar mark. His goal for this year is to reach the $2 million mark.

“There are a lot of reasons for that revenue, but the bottom line is we have a lot of resources that can help families going through a life transition,” said Beard. “If someone is downsizing or moving, we can do space planning, for example. We can measure your furniture, put it into a software system, and give you an idea of what can fit in the new space. It gives them a visual of how it will fit in the new floor plan and new life. We can offer that along with packing services and move management, as well as helping with unpacking and putting things where they need to go. We do cleanouts as well — we take care of donations, trash removal, etc. Basically, we can come in and take care of everything.”

Like Siegel, the capabilities of CTBids have also been a game-changer for Beard. “CTBids was so unique — there are no other companies that help others go through transitions with an online auction platform,” he said. “It is a wonderful opportunity for families, especially those with items they don’t know what to do with.”

Beard is proud of the community support his franchise has garnered. “Everyone needs help with downsizing or knows someone going through that life transition,” he said. “That makes us a very special company.”

“By offering a variety of services, Caring Transitions franchisees can meet the unique needs of each client while also building strong community networks,” said Ray Fabik, president of Caring Transitions. “This ensures that our franchisees are well-equipped to succeed both personally and professionally — building a strong business and making a meaningful impact on the lives of seniors and their families.”
