How This Attorney Found a New Practice with a Caring Transitions Franchise

Kelly Temeyer’s dedication to expanding her business while maintaining a high level of service is a testament to the scalability and flexibility of the Caring Transitions model.

Kelly Temeyer, the franchise owner behind Caring Transitions of Metro Milwaukee, has found a brand new calling, transitioning from a successful career in law to becoming a compassionate business owner.

“I am an attorney by education and practiced employment law for about seven years,” said Temeyer. “After growing our family, I decided I wanted to leave the law and do something else. Franchising offered us support while at the same time allowing me to do my own thing.”

When Temeyer came across Caring Transitions, she immediately recognized its potential in her community of Milwaukee.

“For me, it was about offering a solution that we could execute and immediately see the positive impact,” said Temeyer. “While I was solution-focused as an attorney, it was a slow process. The law can take years. Caring Transitions offers immediate and needed solutions. I had a friend who was struggling to manage the estate of a loved one alone, so I saw first hand how valuable Caring Transitions could be. We are that extended family member and resource for people and families transitioning out of the family home.”

Caring Transitions provides a unique and vital service, helping families manage the complex process of senior relocation, downsizing and estate sales. Unlike standard moving services, which offer minimal support during this time, Caring Transitions offers comprehensive assistance, working closely with families to facilitate a smooth transition and help seniors settle into their new homes with ease.

The low-cost entry and hands-on nature of the Caring Transitions business model also appealed to her entrepreneurial side. “We weren’t trying to invest in a property or brick-and-mortar, so we thought it was a great choice,” she said. “We also thought it would translate well with my people skills. I didn’t know the brand was a franchise at first, but when I put it all together, it felt like it’d be a great fit for me.”

Temeyer started her Caring Transitions franchise in the spring of 2018, and her business has seen steady growth since then. “It's been great, we’ve been consistently growing over that time in terms of families we’ve been able to help,” she said. “COVID actually really helped our business because we were still able to assist our families because we could have online sales. We could still work in our homes. We didn’t lose pace. That really helped us to keep growing brand recognition, especially on CTBids.”

All of this success in her initial territory allowed Temeyer to expand. “Originally I purchased the Metro Milwaukee territory, and at the end of last year, I was able to purchase the neighboring territory to the west of us,” he said. “We were able to grow into two territories.”

When it comes to the ability to scale the business, Temeyer says the variety of services and the number of revenue streams is essential.

“There are so many different service opportunities within the Caring Transitions brand,” said Temeyer. “We can do it all when someone is transitioning. We can pack them up, manage the move, resettle them, space plan, move things to storage, ship things to out-of-state family members, manage donations, clean out the property, and host a sale — that is really what makes the brand so attractive and interesting to our clients, realtors and partners. There is no limit to what we can help someone with.”

For those looking to make a difference in their communities while achieving significant financial rewards, becoming a Caring Transitions franchisee offers a unique and fulfilling opportunity to combine personal passion with a proven business model.
