Buffalo Business First: Checkers sees rapid success in New York

Sibling duo Gail Gentry and Bill Nowak had no idea how successful business would be when they opened their first Checkers in Cheektowaga, N.Y., last year.

“It has been absolutely amazing,” Gentry told Buffalo Business First. “What we are doing there is far, far above any of our expectations.”

Due to the rapid success, Gentry and Nowak opened their second Checkers location in Buffalo, N.Y., on Oct. 20.

The brother-sister pair is also planning to open more locations in coming years and could develop up to 10 locations in the area.

The drive-thru restaurants serve burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and ice cream.

“People in Buffalo do love their ice cream,” Gentry said.
