CNBC: Consumer confidence jumps as Americans expect 2017 momentum to continue

With a consumer optimism reaching the highest mark since November 2000, experts are positive about the future of consumer spending.

According to a recent CNBC article, consumer confidence rose to 125.4 in January. This jump is higher than anticipated, after Reuters expected the increase to peak at 123.1, but is a pleasant surprise after an unexpected decline in December.

"Expectations improved, though consumers were somewhat ambivalent about their income prospects over the coming months, perhaps the result of some uncertainty regarding the impact of the tax plan," Lynn Franco, Director of Economic Indicators at The Conference Board, said in a statement.

All franchise owners know this confidence determines consumer economic decisions, including their spending activity, meaning that this peak is a good sign for business owners. Franco sees this confidence as a solid reflection of growth and expects that growth to continue well into 2018.
